Jagraon (Ludhiana), August 29, 2016: The Punjab government's drug de-addiction drive started for the youth of our state around two years back has started showing positive results. At present, a large number of people are themselves visiting these centres and are getting themselves treated by expert doctors.
This was stated by Jagraon MLA Mr SR Kler, while addressing the gathering while inaugurating a Rehabilitation Centre, here today. This 50-bedded Rehabilitation Centre has been constructed by the Punjab government with a cost of around Rs 1 crore.
While speaking on the occasion, MLA Mr Kler informed that a large number of youth have got themselves treated at the drug de-addiction centres set up in Ludhiana district. He informed that the special drive was started on June 19, 2014 and till date, more than 10,000 youth have shunned drugs in the district by getting treated at the Drug De-Addiction Centres in the district.
Taking an aim at his political opponents, Mr Kler said that some political parties with their own vested interests are maligning the image of Punjab and its youth on one pretext or the other. He said that the Punjabi youth is very hardworking and has achieved new heights in every field.
Mr Kler said that during the recent recruitment of Punjab Police, dope tests of all candidates were carried out and only 1.07 percent youth were found hooked to drugs. He said that this clearly shows that majority of our youth does not believe in drugs and are contributing towards nation building.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included SDM Mr Kulpreet Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Renu Chhatwal, besides several others.
