Iran men team and Indian eves secure their semi-final berths in 5TH Kabaddi World Cup
Sultanpur Lodhi (Kapurthala)/Chandigarh, December 13, 2014: Iran men team and Indian women team secured their places for the semi finals by defeating Spain and Denmark respectively during their matches held at jam packed Guru Nanak Stadium, here on Saturday. The Indian mean team also defeated USA by a big margin of 52-29.
While addressing the gathering, Chief Guest Ajit Singh Kohar, Transport Minister, Punjab, said that it is only due to the efforts of Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government that fifth Kabaddi World Cup is being organised in the state. He said that the Punjab government has always promoted sports the state government is also hiring national and international level coaches, who would train the sportspersons from Punjab. He said that sports culture in the state is flourishing under the guidance of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
He said that it is due to the efforts of Punjab government that our mother sport Kabaddi has emerged on the international sports scene and countries like Argentina, Azerbaijan, Sweden, Denmark and several others have now started playing Kabaddi. He said day is not far when Kabaddi would become part of Commonwealth, Asian and Olympics.
Dr Upinderjit Kaur, former Finance Minister, Punjab, who was the guest of honour on the occasion, said that Kapurthala district has  the proud distinction of producing several international level Kabaddi players and we are proud of them. She said at this could be known from the fact that in the present Indian men team comprises of five players from Kapurthala district which include Captain Sandeep Singh Surakhpuria, Yadwinder Singh, Ranjodh Singh, Gagandeep Gaggi and Sukhjit Singh Bhandal.
Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Member of Parliament, also congratulated the Indian eves for reaching the semi finals.
MATCH 1: MEN SECTION: IRAN DEFEAT SPAIN 54-27:
Iran team dominated the match from the start. By half time, they were already leading by 28-10 and managed to score a victory by a big margin of 54-27. Iranian raiders Behman, Ahmad and Mostafa scored 7 points each, while stoppers Alipeza secured 4 and Mojtaba secured 3 points for his team. For Spain, Raiders Samuel scored 9 and Santiago scored 6 points, while Alejandro secured 3 points for his team.
MATCH 2: WOMEN SECTION: INDIA DEFEAT DENMARK 50-16:
The Indian eves defeated their opponents Denmark by a big margin of 50-16. Indian raiders Sukhwinder scored 8 while Priyanka scored 3 points for her team and stoppers Anu secured 7 and Mandeep secured 4 for their team. Denmark raiders Mile and Sukanya scored 11 and 1 points respectively, while stopper Maja secured 2 points.
MATCH 3: MEN SECTION: INDIA BEAT USA 52-29:
The Indian team defeated their opponent USA team by 52-29. By half time, the Indian team was leading by 27-15. Indian raiders Gagandeep Jogewal and Kamaldeep scored 8 points each, while Sandeep scored 7 points, whereas stoppers Sukhjeet secured 4 and Sukhjeet secured 3 points for his team. USA raiders Parminder and Avtar scored 9 and 4 points each while stopper Navpreet secured 2 points for his team.
