Chandigarh, June 30, 2016: Radio Jyotirgamaya, Panjab University’s Community Radio Station has been chosen for a special award by Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) for its programme “Hamari Beti”. PRCI has decided to honour the Panjab University for the community service through the Hamari Beti programme. Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover will be gracing the occasion. The honour ceremony will be held at School of Communication Studies, Panjab University on July 1, 2016 at 9 AM.
Hamari Beti, the radio show with a mission, and an altruistic objective of women empowerment, was inaugurated on 13 Feb 2013 on the World Radio Day and 2nd Anniversary of Radio Jyotirgamaya by the PU Vice Chancellor, Prof Arun K Grover.
Since then this half an hour show, which is broadcast every Saturday at 10.30 am has created a dedicated audience base. It has successfully highlighted inspiring stories of those women who have overcome many hurdles and obstacles in their lives and went on to achieve great success.
In recognition of the successful run of Hamari Beti and in response to a proposal, the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has sanctioned the Radio Station a project to broadcast half an hour program every day and include the elements of women health and nutrition making the program highly relevant for the community. With the launch of the new format under the aegis of the DST Project, the Hamari Beti program is likely to get a facelift with new formats and more participation of the community.
