Inter College Tournament For The Session 2016-17 Started At PAU

Ludhiana, September 5, 2016: The PAU Directorate of Students’ Welfare started the first event of PAU Inter College Tournaments for the session 2016-17, today. The first event which was conducted was Swimming which saw the participation of as many as 50 students of constituent colleges of PAU. The event was inaugurated by Dr. (Mrs.) Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal, Director Students’ Welfare. On this occasion Dr. (Mrs.) Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal said that the tournament will unfold many challenges for the sports stunners of PAU and the objective to organize such an event is to encourage the spirit of sportsmanship among the students of the university. She further said that the Directorate of Students’ Welfare organises such tournaments every year to give a platform to the students of PAU for representing the university in different Inter-University/All India intervarsity tournaments.

The Directorate of Students’ Welfare not only provides but also maintains a well equipped sports infrastructure such as Swimming Pool, Hockey Astroturf, Cycling Velodrome, Athletic Track, PAU Indoor Gymnasium to benefit the student community at large. In addition to infrastructure facility the Directorate has well qualified and experienced coaching staff who train the students and guide them about new techniques in the world of sports. The university also provides latest sports equipments to its students for the training. It is worth mentioning that PAU is the overall champion for the last four years in the All India Inter Agri University Sports & Games Meet. The Hockey team of PAU won 2nd place in North Zone Intervarsity Tournament and also secured fourth position in All India Intervarsity Indoor Hockey (M) Tournament. PAU students won laurels in Shooting and Weight Lifting. In Shooting, PAU students bagged Gold Medal at the National Level and All India Intervarsity Shooting Championship. In Weight Lifting PAU student won Silver Medal in All India Intervarsity Level. Seeing the number of students in the university and that in professional studies this is no way less feat.

The event also saw the presence of Deputy Director (Physical Education), Assistant Directors (Physical Education) and all Coaches of the Directorate.
