The Science Camp INSPIRE organised by Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya on concluding day on Saturday.

 

Jalandhar, November 8, 2015: The last day of the Science Camp INSPIRE organised by Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya concluded with full fervor on Saturday.  The camp was run jointly with the Department of Science and Technology.  The pre-lunch session was conducted by Prof. I.S. Dua, eminent scientist and former Chairman, Department of Botany, PU, Chandigarh.  Prof. Dua aimed at popularising science among young minds.  He enlightened students about crop Biotech and busted myths associated with it.  The topic of his lecture was ‘Appreciating life thorough Science’.  He begun by questioning simple things like what is science and life.  Furthermore, in the session he discussed answers to these questions.   He quoted that science is a way of thinking much more than it is body of knowledge.  The prime purpose of science is not to change the universe but getting answers to the queries about ourselves.  He stressed that the humans must obey the great law of change and ended the session by quoting lamarck that body is the product of mind and is under the control of mind.
The post lunch session was taken by Prof. Arvind of IISER, Mohali.  The subject of his discussion was quantum world.  He presented students with glimpse into quantum by discussing how it revolutionized the thinking about nature in the 20th century.  He told that this century was also century of Information Science.  Furthermore, he educated that quantum in the coming times will revolutionize the way people think about nature as well as computing.  He told that the 21st century has helped in combining practical ideas with information science that has helped in the appraisal of quantum.  
The valedictory address was presented by Sh. K.D. Bhandari, Chief Parliament Secretary, Punjab.  He appreciated the Principal and faculty members who organized INSPIRE Camp in the college for giving knowledge about science to the students of various schools.  Mrs. Veenta Watni, Retd. Principal, RR Bawa DAV College for Girls, Batala and Former Professor of Physics at HMV said that Inspire Camp is an appreciable step by the College and DST.  She also motivated the students to become a scientist of real life as per the need of the hour.  She also emphasized to work hard, choose a career and further courses of their choice rather than becoming a part of rat race and become a good scientist of real life. She also served as Physics Professor at HMV.  Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the faculty members and congratulated the students on the success of this science camp.  She said that she is thankful to all the experienced and eminent personalities who came to share their knowledge among students.  She mentioned that such events have always been the part of the institution and it will remain with it as a legacy. The camp was organized with the help of various faculty members which included Dean Academics Mrs. Meenakshi Syal, along with heads of various departments of science Mrs. Jyoti Kaul, Mrs. Rakesh Uppal, Mrs. Kiranjit, Dr. Meena Sharma, Dr. Jitender.  At the end, Coordinator of DST INSPIRE Camp Mr. Harpreet Singh gave vote of thanks.  On this occasion, all the faculty members of science departments were present.
