12 nominations filed on the fourth day of filing nominations; total number of nominations reaches 20  

A total of 12 nominations were filed with the District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on the fourth day of filing nominations on Friday. With this, the total number of nominations filed for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency has now reached 20.

Ludhiana, May 10, 2024: A total of 12 nominations were filed with the District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sakshi Sawhney on the fourth day of filing nominations on Friday. With this, the total number of nominations filed for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency has now reached 20.

The nominations can also be filed on May 13 (Monday) and May 14 (Tuesday).

The candidates who have submitted the nominations on Friday include Harwinder Kaur from Samajik Sangharsh Party, Ravneet Singh Bittu from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Santosh Kumar from Bhartiya Inqalab Party, Naresh Kumar Dhingan (Independent), Karan Dhingan (Independent), Lakhvir Singh (Independent), Bhola Singh (Independent), Vishal Kumar Arora (Independent), Balwinder Singh (Independent), Amandeep Singh from Sehajdhari Sikh Party, Davinder Singh from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Jaswinder Kaur from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). 
        
While submitting nominations, the candidates also took the pledge to abide by the constitution of India, uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India and follow the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India.

The total number of nominations submitted for the Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency has now reached 20.

It is pertinent to mention that no nomination was filed on the first day of nomination on May 7, while three nominations were filed on the second day. Bhupinder Singh from Bharatheeya Jawan Kisan Party, Vipan Kumar (Independent) and Baldev Raj Katna (Independent) filed the nominations on the second day (May 8). Similarly, five candidates filed their nominations on the third day on May 9 (Thursday). These included Devinder Singh from Aam Lok Party United, Gursewak Singh from Sarvjan Sewa Party and Jai Parkash Jain, Simrandeep Singh and Ravinder Pal Singh as independent candidates. Further, 12 nominations have been filed today. 
 
DEO Sawhney stated that the Gazette notification for the elections was issued on Tuesday (May 7). Candidates can file their nominations till May 14, 2024 (except public holidays), and the scrutiny of nominations will take place on May 15, 2024 (Wednesday). Candidates can withdraw their nominations till May 17, 2024 (Friday).  

DEO Sawhney also mentioned that nominations can be filed between 11 AM and 3 PM on any of the notified days, except public holidays, from May 7 to May 14, 2024. She clarified that nominations cannot be filed on May 11 and 12 as May 11, 2024, being the second Saturday, and May 12, 2024, being Sunday, are holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. 

The polling day is scheduled for June 1, 2024 (Saturday) in Punjab. The polling hours are from 7 AM to 6 PM. The counting of votes would take place on June 4, 2024 (Tuesday) across the country, including Punjab. The final date for the completion of elections is June 6, 2024 (Thursday).
