Ludhiana, August 4, 2013: BLK Cyberknife Center organized a function in Ludhiana to give information about Advanced CyberKnife VSI Technology for cancer treatment to the doctors of Ludhiana.

More than 50 doctors from various hospitals from Ludhiana participated in function.

S. Hukku, Radiation Oncologist said, “BLK Cyberknife Center becomes the first in Asia-Pacific to introduce the most Advanced CyberKnife VSI Technology for Cancer treatment. This is a universally recognized, non-invasive radio-surgery which will treat both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors anywhere in the body, including the prostate, lungs, brain, spine, liver, pancreas and kidneys.”

This treatment is painless with improved patient comfort. It does not require the use of anesthesia and is feasible on an outpatient basis with little or no recovery period, allowing patients to almost immediately return to normal activities.

BL Kapur Super Specialty Hospital’s Cancer Centre is well- equipped cancer centers in Northern India. We are extremely pleased to bring this path-breaking technology to India which is already in use successfully across the world to treat cancer.  In India, 400,000 people die every year from cancer making it the 3rd largest killer in the country.”

What makes this technology unique is its ability to deliver higher doses of radiation to the tumor while greatly minimizing radiation exposure to healthy tissue and vital organs in the vicinity of the targeted tumor, resulting in no or minimal side effects or post-treatment complications. The treatment delivers high doses of radiation to tumors with extreme accuracy. This technology offers a revolutionary therapy solution for patients who have inoperable or surgically complex tumors, or who may be looking for a non-surgical alternative.

Robotic technology is used continually to track patient movement and to confirm the tumor location prior to beam delivery, making it possible to treat even the most surgically complex tumors including those that move with respiration such as lung and pancreas tumors. It has so far been used successfully to treat over 100,000 Cancer patients worldwide.

Dr Shikha Halder Radiation Oncology Centre said, “The VSI Robotic Radiosurgery System is a revolutionary development in cancer treatment.  It allows far superior reach and maneuverability to previously inaccessible and inoperable lesions such as lesions involving the spine and pancreas. For those of us who have struggled to address these problems for so long, this comes as a significant development in cancer therapy.”
