Indian-origin woman admits to killing son in Scotland

London, July 25 (IANS) An Indian-origin woman Friday admitted to punching her three-year-old son to death at their home in Edinburgh, Scotland, in January.

Rosdeep Adekoya, 35, admitted to assaulting and killing her son, Mikaeel, and hiding his body in a bush behind her sister's house 25 miles away, the Daily Mail reported.

She also pleaded guilty of lying to the police that her son had gone missing, sparking a massive search by rescuers and emergency teams.

Adekoya "lost her temper" when he was repeatedly sick after a trip to a Nando's restaurant at the city's Fountain Park.

The court trying Adekoya in Edinburgh heard that Mikaeel died on the night of Jan 14 from injuries inflicted Jan 12.

She smacked him and struck him on the body and head with a clenched fist, the court heard.

She admitted repeatedly punching her son and causing his body to hit against a hard object and inflicting blunt injuries on his head and body, between Jan 12 and 15.

Adekoya did not take him to a doctor because of the bruising.

She waited until Jan 16, two days after Mikaeel's death, to dial 999 and report her son missing.

She then told officers Mikaeel had got out of bed and climbed on a stool to unlock the front door of his home.

Adekoya will be sentenced Aug 25 at Edinburgh High Court.
