IHRO writes an open letter to Punjab CM on law and order situation in state

IHRO (International Human Rights Organisation) chairman D S Gill said, "The laxity in dealing with such an crucial issue, the police and many SAD activist have become more offensive, law unto themselves. Some of them have started committing murders camouflaging them as killings in police encounters. Mere suspension of police officers involved in these cases or any other related actions would not trick such heinous crimes.”

Ludhiana (Punjab), October 9, 2014: IHRO (International Human Rights Organisation) chairman D S Gill has shot off an open letter to the Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on law and order situation in the state. The letter reads: “In order to secure justice, to ensure rule of law and peace in the state and in the wake of the total lawlessness and repression let loose on the people of Punjab, more so, on the opposition political activists, I, on behalf of IHRO, beseech your immediate, kind attention towards these repressive and illegal activities for taking proper, stringent legal and political measures to bridle state administration and your SAD cadre, intoxicated and arrogated due to pronged power.

The laxity in dealing with such an crucial issue, the police and many SAD activist have become more offensive, law unto themselves. Some of them have started committing murders camouflaging them as killings in police encounters. Mere suspension of police officers involved in these cases or any other related actions would not trick such heinous crimes.”
He further wrote that “these unlawful activities are total negation of rule of law, democracy and human rights. Sardar Badal, your litany- law will take its course; no one is above law and rule of law will prevail- is nothing but a reflection of the lackadaisical approach of the state government of which you are the head. I, therefore, urge you, Mr Badal, to immediately neutralize lawlessness in the state by immediately bridling your state administration, especially the police, and the SAD fierce activists.”
