Ludhiana, August 26, 2015: To organise the workers for participation in the upcoming nationwide strike on 2nd September at the call given by the Central Trade Unions, the Hosiery Workers Union (AITUC) organised a jatha march around Bahaderke Road. This march was led by Com D P Maur, Feroze Master, Ram Pratap, Kewal Singh, Manjit Singh Boota, Ram Reet, Kuldip Singh Binder, Lalit Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Vedprakash Lalu. They held rallies, corner meetings and distributed handbills regarding the strike.
The speakers while addressing criticized the Modi led BJP government at center for its anti labour policies. They demanded immediate withdrawal of so called labour reforms which if implemented will lead to 70% of the work force, who are already covered by the labour laws, out of the purview of the labour laws. Modi government’s constant appeasement of the corporate sector has already marginalised the toiling masses. Nearly 30 % of the population is unable to afford two square meals and 85% of the population of our country is devoid of benefits of health care, quality education, water supply, housing and several other essential day to day needs.
The speakers said that unemployment has crossed the mark of 10 crores so the workersmust unite in strength and participate effectively in the nationwide strike called by the central trade unions on 2nd September 2015.
They further demanded minimum wage to be fixed at Rs. 15000, effective measures to stop violation of labour laws, stop the so called labour reforms which are in fact anti worker.  They also demanded pension for all the workers, ESI cards for all the workers for free health services. Labour colonies with quality facilities of safe drinking water and schools for the children should be provided to the workers. Employees Provident Fund should be deposited by the employers for pension and gratuity of the workers. They also demanded that the voter card, identity card, Aadhar card and ration card of all workers be made without any harassment to the workers.
The workers fully supported the above demands and decided to participate in the 2nd September Strike in big way.
