HMV organised SCICARNIVAL 2016

Jalandhar, February 6, 2016: The Science Departments of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya on Friday organised SCI-CARNIVAL 2016 sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India.  Vice Chancellor of DAV University Dr.A.K Paul was the chief guest of the carnival.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj welcomed the chief guest with bouquet of flowers.  Addressing the students, Chief Guest Dr.A.K.Paul said that Science Carnivals are helpful in promoting scientific temperament among students.  Carnivals motivate the students and give them experience of unknown facts or things.  It broadens the mental horizons of the students.   He also gave his best wishes to the staff and students for organizing such an event.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj said that it is very important to have scientific temperament.  Nature teaches us discipline.  People of scientific temperament have also said that science with humanity is very important.  She said that the main motive to organize Sci Carnival is to promote basic sciences among students.  

 

Convener of Sci Carnival 2016 and Head of Botany Deptt. Dr. Meena Sharma briefed the students about the event and said that in the era of technology, the need of basic sciences can never be forgotten.  It is the need of the hour to tell the students about the importance of science and inculcate in them the interest towards science.   Head of Physics Deptt. Prof. Renuka Bhatti gave presentation and told the students about the achievements of the college and science departments. 

 

Various competitions were organized during Sci Carnival which included Model/Poster Making, Elocution, Quiz and My opinion.  The judges of the competitions were Dr. T.D. Saini and Dr. Ravi from DAV College, Dr. Sachin, Scientist at NIRE, Kapurthala and Dr. Badwal from Zoology Deptt. of Doaba College.  In this carnival, 280 students from 25 institutes participated in various competitions.  These institutes are affiliated to Punjabi Univ., Panjab Univ., Guru Nanak Dev University, Punjab Technical Univ., and DAV University.  Student of the college Ms. Gurkanwal Bharti presented a Sufi Kalam.  

In My Opinion competition of Sci Carnival 57 students participated.  In this competiton, Harsimrat Chawla of Govt. College for Girls Ludhiana bagged first, Nidhi Soni of HMV bagged second and Navdeep Singh Dhindsa of Arya College Ludhiana bagged third prize.   In Eloctuion, Shivali Thakur of DAV Univ. bagged first prize, Gunjan of KMV won second prize and Priyanka of HMV won third prize.  In Poster making, Deepanjali and Deepanjali Gothwal of HMV won first prize, Sugandhi and Shivani of DAV Univ. won second prize, Vivek Suri and Manpreet Kaur of Govt. College Hoshiarpur won third prize.  In Quiz competition, HMV won first prize, Govt. College Talwara won second prize and DAV Univ. won third prize.  In Model making competition, Govt. College Kapurthala won first prize, DAV Univ. won second prize and Khalsa College Ludhiana won third prize.  Appreciation award was given to GNDU Regional Campus, Doaba College and GN Girls College Ludhiana.  Overall Trophy was won by DAV University.  Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bharwaj and Convener Dr. Meena Sharma gave away the prizes to winners.

 

On this occasion, organizing secretary of the college and Dean Academics Prof. Meenakshi Syal, Head of Zoology Deptt. Prof. Kiranjit Kaur, Head of Chemistry Deptt. Prof. Jyoti Kaul, Dr. Jitender Kumar, Prof. Harpreet Singh were also present.  Stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia.
