Shimla, December 28, 2015: The State Government is mulling to install pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generators in the State so as to provide immediate and better health care facilities to the patients.

This was disclosed by Health Minister Sh. Kaul Singh Thakur during a meeting of senior officers of the department organised here today to explore the possibilities of establishing PSA technology in the health institutions of the State.

He said that initially this technology would be introduced in few major hospitals of the State on experimental basis and if this experiment proved to be successful than it would be introduced in other hospitals as well.  He said PSA technology was reliable and highly efficient, so running costs are low.

The Health Minister said that as of now, the supply of oxygen for IGMC Shimla was being provided by mode of transportation from the oxygen plants established at Mandi and Padhar in District Mandi. This was resulting in high cost besides consumption of time. Moreover, the supply sometimes get hindered during rainy and snow seasons and also due to certain technical failures. With the introduction of this technology, continuous supply of oxygen would be ensured at low cost.

He directed the officers to constitute a committee to explore the possibilities of using PSA technology in the State.

Special Secretary Health Miss Nandita Gupta, Principal, IGMC Dr. S.S. Kaushal, Director Health Services, Dr. D.S. Gurung and technical officials of the department attended the meeting.
