Talwandi Sabo, December 23, 2014: The Vice Chancellor Dr.N.S.Malhi, ever since his joining, has been laying stress on strengthening Teaching and Research programmes at Guru Kashi University. University College of Agriculture of Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo, is already running B.Sc.(Agri.), M.Sc.(Vegetables), M.Sc.(Pomology) and M.Sc.(Agronomy) courses. The Post Graduate students and staff of the college are doing research on Vegetables, Fruits and Field Crops. The Post Graduate Faculty of this college at GKU has long experience of Research and Teaching. The first batch of M.Sc. students is conducting research trials and trained for presentation of their research work. According to information available with cityairnews.com a Seminar was organised for training to PG students and they delivered lectures at GKU on research work in the field of Vegetable Science, Pomology and Crop Science. There are about 25 M.Sc. students who delivered lectures on Horticultural and field crops research trials. The research is based on farmer’s field problems of South-Western region. The topics like protected cultivation of Vegetables Crops, Nutritional requirements of vegetables and field crops, Fruit drop in citrus and role of micro-nutrients in fruits, vegetable and field crops were given priority. All Post Graduate students will submit thesis on their research work to be carried out at Research Farm of Guru Kashi University. The research carried out by students and staff of University College of Agriculture will prove to be a boom for farmers of South-Western region of Punjab particularly in diversification and it will go a long way in increasing the productivity of vegetables and field crops.
