Haryana Government sanctioned Rs 62 crore for providing monthly stipend to students

Chandigarh, June 24, 2015: Haryana Government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 62 crore for the year 2015-16 for providing monthly stipend to students belonging to Backward Classes (BC)-A and those of Below Poverty Line (BPL) studying in 9th to 12thclasses in the government schools of the State.   
While giving this information here today, a spokesman of School Education Department said that the amount would be disbursed in four quarterly instalments.   
He said that under the Monthly Stipend Scheme for BC-A students, a sum of Rs 50 crore would be spent for providing monthly stipend to students of this category during the year 2015-16 thus benefitting total 1,78,598 students including 89,416 boys and 89,182 girls to the tune of over Rs 12.32 crore quarterly. Under this scheme, boys and girls students studying in class 9th to 12th  would get monthly stipend at the rate of Rs 150 and Rs 300 respectively and for class 11th and 12th Science Group Rs 200 and Rs 400 respectively.           
The spokesman said that similarly, a sum of Rs 12 crore would be spent under the Monthly Stipend Scheme for BPL students thus  benefiting total 41,829 students including 19,662 boys and 22,167 girls to the tune of over Rs 2.93 crore quarterly. Under the scheme, boys and girls students studying in classes 9th to 12th  would get monthly stipend at the rate of Rs 150 and Rs 300 respectively and for class 11th and 12th Science Group Rs 200 and Rs 400 respectively. 
He said that the amount of stipend would be transferred to the students account by the Institution or Account Operator as per the attendance of eligible students. The amount would be drawn by School Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) from the bank through the Treasury on basis of actual number of beneficiaries for disbursement to them. He said that detailed terms and conditions of disbursement alongwith instructions of maintaining of record have already been conveyed to all the District Education Officers, Drawing and Disbursing Officer or Operators. He said that they would be responsible for timely disbursement strictly as per the instructions issued by the department in accordance with the scheme issued by the Finance Department. 
The beneficiaries would be identified on the basis of BC-A and BPL certificate issued by the competent authority as per the government instructions or guidelines, he added. / (SK Vyas, Jalandhar)
