Talwandi Sabo, May 14, 2014: Guru Kashi University established under Punjab Act 37 of 2011, is still in infancy but it has been earnest endeavor of this University not only to cater to the educational needs of the rural areas of Malwa region of the state but also to facilitate job avenues for them. Keeping this in view not only highly experienced and qualified faculty has been recruited but also new courses are being started.
In order to meet the manpower requirement of the refinery and other industries located in this area, preferences are given to the courses which ensure the placement of the pass out graduates without any delay. This university is one of the few institutions which has courses like Diploma in Petro Refinery & Bachelor’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering. Our vision is to grow into a world class university by keeping pace with rapid developments taking place in the fields of Science, Technology & Humanities. In commensurate with our mission to maintain high standards in education and equip the students with knowledge, skills & competency to enable them to contribute effectively in socio-economic development of the society, we have introduced job-related courses with special emphasis on Agriculture Engineering and Petroleum Engineering. It is indeed a matter of concern that 70% of our youth is in the grip of drug-addiction. In order to bring them back on the right path, Guru Kashi University is not only imparting them knowledge and high skills but also enabling them to earn their livelihood. Thus GKU aims at imbibing the youth with adequate potential academically, morally and socially so that they may contribute their mite to growth of the nation.
This year the university has made a plan to introduce 28 new vocational courses like Physiotherapy, Library Science, Journalism, Mass Communication, TV Anchoring, News Reading, Fire Safety, Horticulture Supervision, Dairy Technology, Veterinary Science & Animal Health Technology, Aviation Technology, which will certainly go a long way in facilitating jobs for the students joining these courses.
The university has moderate fee structure which is almost equal to the fee being charged by similar institutes in the state but we have an enormous scholarship plan under which sportsmen, merit holders, economically backward classes, SC & ST candidates and those belonging to Sikh Minorities are benefitted.
The university is launching its prospectus for 2014-15 on this occasion.
