Ghanaian government, GFA to issue joint response to FIFA

Accra (Ghana), July 26 (IANS) The Ghanaian government might issue a joint response with its Football Association (GFA) to FIFA on establishing a Commission of Enquiry to look into the country' s recent World Cup flop, Minister of Youth and Sports Mahama Ayariga said here.

The Commission was set up by Ayariga to look into activities that led to Ghana' s poor performance at the recent 2014 World Cup in Brazil, reports Xinhua.

World football governing body FIFA wrote to the GFA over the establishment and composition of the Commission of Enquiry by the government.

However, Ayariga said in a statement that he had discussed with the GFA on this arrangement which would help FIFA to know the opinion of both the GFA and the Ghanaian government.

The Black Stars, making a third straight World Cup appearance, failed to make it past the first round after they picked up a point from the three group games played against the United States, Germany and Portugal.

Ghana's World Cup campaign was dogged by controversies after the team nearly boycotted the game against Portugal over unpaid appearance fees, leading to the ouster of two players, Sulley Ali Muntari and Kevin-Prince Boateng, from the team's camp for misconduct.

The Commission, headed by Justice Senyo Dzamefe, an Appeals Court Judge, was instituted to enquire into matters relating to the team's preparation for the tournament and possible lapses which might have caused their early exit.
