Amritsar, December 14, 2015: A “Four Week Orientation Programme-98” concluded at the UGC-Human resource Development Centre of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 30 University & College teachers pertaining to a wide spectrum of disciplines from various nooks & corners of the country participated.
Prof S.S Gill, Former Vice-Chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot presided over the valedictory session as a Chief Guest. Prof. Gill in his valedictory address exhorted the teaching fraternity to rise to the occasion and grapple the various challenges being faced by the society at present in addition to their primary responsibility of guiding the students. The society at large has high expectations from the teaching community as a harbinger of the positive, constructive change, he opined. The rapid transformation taking place in the field of education has put more onus on the teaching community to adapt themselves to these changes, he emphasized. Talking about the changing role of education in the present times, he highlighted that the aim of the education   needs not to be confined to securing white-collared jobs, but also to produce good, right thinking human beings. Expressing his deep concern over the declining work culture, he named it as one of the major factors hampering the quality of world class teaching and research in the country. He concluded his address by emphasising on the urgent need of dialogue amongst the teachers of diverse disciplines in consonance with the concept of interdisciplinary approach.
