Chandigarh, August 1, 2013: The Project of four laning of Pathankot-Amritsar and Bhogpur-Mukerian is 80% complete and the remaining work would be completed by December, 2013.

Disclosing this here today, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, PWD Minister, Punjab said that the four laning of 102.43 km long stretch of Pathankot-Amritsar road was being done with the cost of 800 crore whereas Rs. 300 crore would be spent on the four laning of  44 km long road from Bhogpur to Mukerian.

The Minister informed that four major four lane projects are also under construction in the state including Ropar-Chamkaur Sahib-Neelon-Doraha, Morinda-Kurali-Siswan, Kotkapura-Sri Muktsar Sahib and Batala-Mehta-Beas. He said that these projects would be completed by December, 2014, which would provide a big sigh of relief to daily commuters from traffic congestions besides saving their precious time and energy. The expenditure on these four projects covering 149.80 km stretch of road would be Rs. 454 crore.

Divulging the details of the four laning projects that have already been completed Dhillon said that Dhilwan-Amritsar, Amritsar-Wagha Border, Jalandhar-Bhogpur, Mukerian-Pathankot, Kurali-Kiratpur Sahib and Zirakpur-Ambala Road have been four laned with the cost of 1466 crore. He said that these six projects cover 230 km long stretch of roads.

Dhillon said that SAD-BJP government has also chalked out a plan to construct bridges, widening and strengthening of roads and construction of flyovers, where needed, in the state since the department was working on this plan at ground level. He said that a special emphasis was paying by the Punjab Government in this regard to further bring improvement in the road network besides connecting all parts of the state with upgraded roads.
