FIR against Hooda and Vadra clear case of political vendetta: Tewari
Ludhiana, September 2, 2018: The national spokesperson of the Congress and former union minister Manish Tewari today asserted that the right and respect of the party workers should be paramount to repeat the 2017 success in 2019. He also said that it was important for the secular and progressive forces of the country to unite together and save the idea of India. Addressing a well attended workers’ meeting organized by the Punjab Congress General Secretary, Gurmail Pahlawan and later talking to reporters, here today, Tewari said, it was because of the hardwork of the party workers that had ensured two-third victory for the Congress in Punjab in 2017 and if party wanted to repeat the feat it must ensure the rights and interests of workers are protected and safeguarded. He congratulated the workers for stopping the BJP wave in Punjab when it had swept almost the entire country. “I know you have great expectations from the government and these expectations are well deserved since you have faced the Akali-BJP onslaught for ten years and then ensured a sweeping victory for the party”, he told the workers while assuring them, “now it is our turn to deliver on those promises and expectations”. Expressing his gratitude to the workers and people of Ludhiana, he said, he has got immense love and support from them since 2004, when he contested from here for the first time. “Whatever responsibility the party gives me this time, I will readily accept that”, he said. Later talking to reporters, the former union minister said, the Akalis’ criticism of the Justice Ranjit Singh Commission was not fair. He pointed out, it was not a report prepared by the Congress government or the party, but by an independent judicial commission. “Who stops them (Akalis) to challenge the report on facts?” he asked. Replying to a question on the registration of a case in Haryana against former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Robert Vadra, Tewari said, it was a clear case of political vendetta. Besides, he added, the BJP government was feeling the heat as it had no defence against the multi-billion Rafale Scam, by purchasing the fighter aircrafts for the price two times more than what had been negotiated by the Congress led UPA government. He said, now the BJP government was only trying to divert the attention and it will never succeed in its design.
