Chandigarh, November 20, 2018: Welcoming the Patiala House Court’s decision to convict and punish two persons accused of 1984 Sikh massacre in Delhi, the BJP today reiterated that the Union Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was committed to impart justice to the victims.

Tarun Chugh, the national secretary of BJP today said this was just the beginning and everyone responsible for Sikh massacre in 1984 would be punished in accordance with the law of the land.

He said that after the thorough inquiry by SIT constituted by Modi government, the Delhi court has awarded death sentence to Yashpal Singh and life-term to Naresh Sehrawat, both convicted for massacre of Sikhs in 1984.

Chugh said that the initiative taken by Narendra Modi-led NDA government has started yielding results and the Sikh community could now hope for justice even as they were denied justice for over three decades as successive Congress governments shielded and protected the perpetrators of heinous crime against humanity.

The BJP leader said Congress party and its governments instead of providing justice to a community had guarded the interests of its leaders and their cronies who butchered and set on fire more than 3000 Sikhs by bringing them out of their homes, vehicles, trains and buses.

Chugh said it was time Congress comes forward and clears its position as to why it failed to punish the guilty and impart justice to the victims for a period extending to more than three decades.

He said Congress must tell the country as to why cases were registered as late as 1993 regarding a crime which took place in 1984. “The cases were closed denying justice to victims and their families but ultimately Modi government re-initiated proceedings in 2014 to fulfill its promise to provide justice to Sikhs,” he said.

Chugh said, “With today’s verdict, one can hope that Congress big guns like Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath, who have been accused of leading the mobs to kill innocent Sikhs in 1984, would also be punished after hearing of the cases.”
