ECI issues schedule for summery revision of electoral rolls in Punjab
Chandigarh, November 17, 2014: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for summery revision of electoral rolls in Punjab and this task would be accomplished up to January 1, 2015.
Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Chief Electoral Office, Punjab said that process of summery revision has been initiated with a view to prepare accurate roll inclusive of all eligible persons as electoral. Further, in the process, names of dead/ shifted or otherwise disqualified electoral are required to be deleted and particulars of electoral corrected and updated. He said that in this massive activity entire election machinery starting with CEOs, DEOs, EROs, AEROs and ending with BLO supervisors and BLOs would take part.
The spokesperson further said that Election Commission of India has issued direction for the state government not to transfer any officials connected with the exercise of revision of electoral rolls like District Education Officers, Deputy District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration officers etc., from their places of posting without the prior concurrence of the Election Commission.
The Commission has also restricted the deployment of such officials with the work relating to or connected with the revision of electoral rolls against whom commission has recommended disciplinary action, against whom criminal case is pending and such officials who were transferred out during any previous revision of rolls or conduct of election inefficiency or wilfully violating the ECI directions.
