Ludhiana, March 16, 2017: Diversification of agriculture and cultivation of pulses is not only important for nutrition security but also improves soil fertility. Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Fatehgarh Sahib organised Field Day on Quality Seed Production of Summer Moong in Village Badhoushi Kalan to motivate the farmers to engage in quality seed production of summer moong on 16 March 2017. A total of 159 farmers from village Badhoushi Kalan and nearby villagers participated in this field day. Dr. Inderpreet Dhaliwal, Assistant Plant Breeder from Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics presided over the function. Dr. Manisha Bhatia, AP (Home Science) welcomed the experts and the farmers of the nearby villages. She gave brief information about the different activities of KVK. Technical lectures on quality seed production started with the Cultivation practices for seed crops of pulses by Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (Trg) KVK. Further the information of recommended varieties for seed production of pulses was shared with Dr. Ranjit Kaur Assistant Plant Breeder. The detailed information on quality seed production of certified seeds was given by Dr. Inderpreet Dhaliwal. Further, Dr. Arvindpreet Kaur, AP (Horticulture) suggested the role and importance of pulses in nutrition garden. Technical details about various diseases in seed production of summer moong were discussed in details by Dr. Anju Bala Assistant Plan Pathologist. Information on Management of Insect pests of Summer Moong were given by Mrs Reet Verma, AP (Plant Protection). Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (trg.) also discussed the Front line demonstration on summer moong SML 832. An exhibition of various latest techniques, sale of seed of fodder Maize, Bajra and Vegetables seed kits, solar gadgets for the benefits of farmers was put up during the camp. S. Sukhwinder Singh, PEDA gave valuable inputs on gadgets used for energy conservation. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by S. Harjeet Singh, farmer of village Badhoshi Kalan who thanked all the experts for providing valuable inputs to the farmers.
