Ludhiana, October 4, 2016: Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) cum Additional District Electoral Officer Ludhiana, Miss Apneet Riyait today said that the District Administration is giving special emphasis to make sure the maximum number of young voters cast their vote in the upcoming Punjab Assembly Elections. She informed that the District Administration is also compiling a data of all physically challenged people of the district so that their participation in the voting process is also increased.
She said this while chairing a meeting regarding SVEEP (Systematic Voter's Education and Electoral Participation) project at the office of ADC (D), here today.
Miss Riyait said that there would be a large number of first time voters (youngsters) this time, but very few of them are actually registered as voters. So special emphasis was given to not only register them, but also to motivate them to cast their vote. She informed that under the SVEEP activities of the Election Commission of India, special emphasis is given for increasing the registration of youngsters aged 18-19 years. Under this activity, heads of all government/private schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions, have nominated nodal officers from their respective organisations, who would ensure that their students, who would turn 18 years in age on January 1, 2017 are registered as voters.
During today’s meeting, Miss Riyait also informed that a special drive for maximum voting by physically challenged would also be carried out in the district. She informed that the office of Civil Surgeon, Ludhiana, has been asked to compile this data at the earliest so that necessary arrangements can be made.
She further informed that for easy registration of voters or for any queries, people can also log in to websites, www.eci.nic.in, www.nvsp.in, www.ceopunjab.nic.in, www.ludhiana.nic.in or can contact at toll free helpline number 1950 or at office number 0161-2431430.
