Dharamshala, July 11, 2017: The Municipal Corporation of the Smart City Dharamshala has come up with a unique idea to provide the parking facility to its residents, who doesn’t have garage facility. Dharamshala is a special city where almost entire free land belongs to forest, whether it has trees or not on it. The municipal authority expresses its inability to have enough land to provide parking in the city or around ,as to get sanction from forest ministry is a very long process.
“We have sufficient money and law to develop parking areas anywhere within the corporation limits, and now have decided to provide the parking facility to at least its permanent residents ,who doesn’t have garages”, said Lalit Jain Commissioner Dharamshala MC.
Talking to this correspondent at Dharamshala Jain said, “We will cover both side drainage channels of all the link-motor able roads of the city with iron grill to give the roads the extra width. And then we shall provide marked boundary on one side parking on these roads.” Jain said that this will not only provide relief of safe parking on link roads but give ample space for the smooth running of traffic through the rest of the road.
He further discloses that the MC Dharamshala has a plan to allot such parking slots to nearby residents on payment so that they can park their vehicle there with the safety of not being challaned.
The commissioner also revealed that to start with, a sum of Rs. 8 crore has been sanctioned to cover the roadside drains in Wards No.2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9. The work shall be executed by HIMUDA (Himachal Urban Development Authority), to be started in August this year.

The MC of this smart city on one end is fitting high value imported underground dustbins, and on the other hand has started door-to-door collection of garbage scheme too. Commissioner MC Dharamsala Lalit Jain, said ,”door-to door collection has been started in two wards of the city namely Shayam Nagar and Ram Nagar on pilot basis. We have engaged 15 rag pickers for the job. The rag pickers have been issued identity cards by the corporation. They are authorised to charge Rs.50 per month from small houses, Rs.100 per month from bigger houses and Rs.500 per month from commercial establishment.”
Commissioner said that this will help those families which are not able to go to the dustbins for one or the other reason. The scheme if approved largely will be extended to other wards too.
He further said that these rag pickers are allowed to segregate and sell plastic and other solid waste of junk value. The remaining waste would be dumped at the dumping site of the corporation.
