Ludhiana, January 13, 2015: The Department of Vegetable Science, P.A.U., Ludhiana celebrated “Lohri with a Mission”, today. The celebrations were dedicated to the noble cause of “Awareness about Eye Donation”.
The event was organised in collaboration with Punarjot Eye Bank Society, Ludhiana. Dr.Ramesh, Medical Director of the Society delivered a motivational lecture to make the audience aware of the importance of eye and organ donation in India. He informed that about one lakh eye donations are required in India and that each donor can give the gift of sight to two blind persons.
Subhash Malik, Secretary of the society and Dr. Chander Mohan, Additional Director Communication, P.A.U. also spoke on the occasion.
Dr. M.S. Dhaliwal, Head, Department of Vegetable Science initiated signature campaign to enroll the donors. The event generated overwhelming response from the faculty, students, office and the field staff.
The function ended with traditional lighting of bonfire and Lohri celebrations.
