Day-2 of Panjab University Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival at SCD Government College

Ludhiana, October 3, 2018: The second day of the Zonal Youth & Heritage Festival (Zone Ludhiana-A) 2018 began at SCD Government College with the talented young actors presenting one act plays on a number of burning issues like Artificial Intelligence, The pain of a mother with the hermaphrodite child, how Gandhian ideals have become eroded due to vested interests. In Histrionics, the budding actors presented mimicries par excellence. The competitors in Instrumental Music categories presented stiff competition to each other and held high hopes of keeping alive the rich musical tradition of the land of Punjab. The Open Air Theatre where these traditional items were presented resounded with the Sound of Music. The participants also displayed their rich talent in 8 categories of Fine Arts which the viewers and visitors enjoyed and appreciated. The Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof. Raj Kumar had inaugurated the function yesterday. Today the function was graced by Sh. Surinder Dawar. In his address to the audience, he emphasized upon planting more and more trees, staying away from drugs and devoting time and attention to studies. Other distinguished guest who graced the function was Mohammad Usman Rehmani.
Dr. Nirmal Jaura, Director Youth Welfare Panjab University also motivated the students regarding participation in co-curricular activities for which the Youth Festival provides an appropriate forum in the form of Drama, Fine Arts, Music, Vocal and Instrumental, Quiz, Creative Writing, Debate etc. From now onwards, the winners in the different items of Youth Festival will benefit when they apply for admission in various courses of Panjab University and they would also be granted scholarships. Earlier, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Raj Kumar encouraged the students to chisel their personalities through academics and creative activities. In his short tenure of 2.5 months only, Prof. Raj Kumar has sanctioned research projects worth Crores of Rupees and he has also invited the academics to come forward with newer projects for the betterment of the society and students.
DAY 2 RESULTS
In Quiz 13 teams participated in the preliminary round. 4 teams qualified and the competition was won by SCD Govt College, the second place was won by AS College Khanna while Shri Aurobindo College stood 3rd.
In Instrumental Music there were five categories – In Percussion, Manpreet singh of GNN College, Doraha, Mandeep Singh of Atam Vallabh Jain College Hussainpura and Tarunpreet singh of A.S. College Khanna stood First, Second and Third respectively. In Non- Percussion, Ganga Singh of GNN College Doraha stood First , Sandeep singh of Malwa College Bondli stood Second and Chetan Didar of Arya College Ludhiana and Balwinder singh of SCD Govt College were bracketed Third. In Indian Orchestra GGN College Doraha and Malwa College Bondli stood First and Second respectively. In individual, First position went to Sandeep kaur of Malwa College Bondli, Harbhajan Singh of GNN College Doraha stood Second and Aasa singh of Malwa College Bondli stood third.
Other events are Oct act plays, Histrionics, Instrumental Music and Fine arts items.
