Critical Care Support Course organised at DMCH

A view of Critical Care Support Course being organised at DMCH, Ludhiana.

Ludhiana, December 13, 2014: Department of Critical Care Medicine and Anesthesia at DMCH, Ludhiana today organised two-day programme on ‘Fundamentals of Critical Care Support Course (FCCS)’ in Dumra Auditorium. 

Course Coordinator Dr PL Gautam, Ludhiana said that Fundamental Critical Care Support Course is a major resource for those who are interested in recognising various aspects of   critical illness and initiate care for the critically ill patients. Dr Gautam extended thanks to Course Director Dr Manish Munjal, Jaipur. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri said that Critical Care Medicine is a relatively new but increasingly important medical specialty. Department of  Critical Care Medicine  at DMCH has been providing state of the art care for patients with life-threatening conditions.

Course Coordinator-Dr PL Gautam (Professor of Anaesthesioogy) introduced subject of the course to the participating candidates. In his lecture, Dr PL Gautam spoke on ‘Assessment of Seriously ill Patients’ followed by deliberation on ‘Airway Management’ and ‘Cardiopulmonary Resucitation’ by Dr Vikash Saini and Dr Shikha Gupta, respectively.

Other topics covered on the first day of the programme include- ‘Monitoring Blood Flow, Oxygenation & Acid-Base Status’ by Dr Vivek Gupta, ‘Diagnosis & Management of Shock’ by Dr Vinay Singhal and ‘Diagnosis & Management of Acute Respiratory Failure’ by Dr Vikash Saini.

Dr PL Gautam & Dr Vikas Saini elaborated the delegates on various aspects of  ‘Mechanical Ventilation’. Mechanical ventilation is a method to mechanically assist or replace spontaneous breathing and is indicated when the patient's spontaneous ventilation is inadequate to maintain life.

The function included skill station training on ‘Vascular Access’, ‘Airway Management’, ‘CPR’ and ‘Traumatic Brain Injury Scenarios’ by different guest speakers.
