World Leprosy Day being celebrated at CHC, Bara Pind (Phagwara) on Friday.

 

Bara Pind (Phagwara), January 31, 2014: “If patients take proper treatment leprosy is quite curable,” this was revealed by Senior Medical Officer Dr Balwinder Singh Kahlon during a special lecture to ASHA workers on world ‘Leprosy Day’ here at Community Health Centre (CHC), Bara Pind.   
Saying that leprosy is not highly infectious disease as assumed by the majority of people, Dr Kahlon said that it starts with spots on skins and patients complaining of no feeling of hot or cold in affected area. “If treatment is not followed it starts affecting the peripheral organs,” he said, adding that although patient has to continue with treatment for few years but it is curable. He asked the ASHA workers to immediately refer such suspected cases to Community Health and Centre and specialist doctors.
Block Extension Educator Preetinder Singh revealed that out of total Leprosy cases 55 percent belongs to India only.
