CRIME: Sacrilege accused shot at inside police station

Ludhiana, August 31, 2012: A person has been arrested in connection with broad daylight assault on a migrant detained in the Sahnewal police station, near here, today.

As per the details, the migrant, Dileep Kumar, allegedly went inside a local Gurdwara and indulged in sacrilege act by damaging the holy “Bir” yesterday. As a result, the villagers got provoked and beat up the migrant after nabbing him. Later, the migrant was handed over to the police.

It was today when a few people went to the police station on the plea that they wanted to meet Dileep. Out of these people, a person identified as Mandeep Singh allegedly opened two shots from a weapon.  As a result, Dileep got seriously injured. He has been admitted into a hospital.

When contacted, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Gurpreet Singh Toor told City Air News that a person allegedly involved in the assault had been arrested. He said the injured migrant was undergoing treatment in the hospital. He told that they would be able to know the exact cause of indulging into sacrilege act once the injured migrant returned to his senses.

Tension was created in the area after the incident. However, the situation is under control now.

Police have registered case against both the accused.

Also, police have recovered a weapon from Mandeep Singh.

Further police investigation is in progress.
