Ghaziabad: In an endeavour towards imparting specialized training and guidance in cricket to young students, DPS Indirapuram, Meerut Road Campus launched the Cricket Aakash Academy (CAA) this Saturday. This cricket academy will be opened for all and every child can be a part of it, especially those children who are keen to learn the techniques of the game and are financially weak. The school will provide them a scholarship and special training with minimal registration and academic fee.
Named after Mr. Aakash Chopra, former cricketer of the Indian National Cricket team, the cricket academy is an initiative as part of DPS Indirapuram, Meerut Road Campus' pedagogical approach towards holistic education. CAA has been launched for the first time in Ghaziabad. The cricket training programme at CAA will be facilitated by professional coaches, and conducted on customized pitches for intensive practice sessions. Students of the academy will be mentored by Mr. Aakash Chopra on how to sharpen their sporting techniques and be counted amongst the finest cricketing talent.
Mr. Chopra is the former Indian cricketer, who played for the Indian cricket team from late 2003 until late 2004 as a defensive opening batsman and close catcher in Test matches. He was known more for his technique and defense than for his flamboyant stroke-play, typically trying to wait for the new ball to lose its shine, rather than hitting the shine off the ball.
“DPS Indirapuram, Meerut Road Campus understands the importance of providing all-round personality and character development opportunities to students. Cricket in India is more like a religion and it is imperative that it reaches to the masses. Through this academy, we will try to pool in as many young aspirants of cricket and offer them the proper guidance. The school from its initial stages has been aiming to provide not only to our students but to every children,” said, Mrs. Meeta Rai, the school director.
