CPI to protest to demand roll back of GST on agriculture on July 24

Ludhiana, July 12, 2017: The Executive Committee of Communist Party of India (CPI) District Ludhiana expressed deep concern over the GST imposed on the agricultural inputs which will the already suffering farmers into deep crises. The cost of agriculture inputs will increase by 12% to 28 % adding to the cost of agriculture produce. For example the tax on the fertilizers was 0 to 8 % till date but now it has been increase to 12%. The cost of DAP and Potash bags will increase substantially. Tax on the tractors has been increased from 5 to 12 % and on the spare parts to 28%. This will add to an excess burden on rupees one lakh crore on the farmers. This will further push the marginal farmers into deep poverty and the incidents of suicides are likely to increase.
The CPI will hold protest rallies and offer for arrests to demand roll back of GST on agriculture on 24th July at mini secretariat Ludhiana.

Giving information about this Com Kartar Singh Bowani district secretary, Dr Arun Mitra, D P Maur and Ramesh Rattan said that this was decided in the meeting held today under the chairmanship of Com Kewal Singh Banwait that in preparation for the 24th July event the party will hold rallies in different parts of the district. In addition the demand for complete waiving off the loan to farmers, increase in minimum support price, implementation of Swaminathan Committee report, social security to the agriculture workers and housing form them will be highlighted.
