Country is bestowed with a unique wealth of knowledgeable qualified professionals: Prof. Solanki

Kapurthala, May 10, 2016: There is no doubt that our country is bestowed with a unique wealth of knowledgeable qualified professionals and it gets richer every year. Excellence of Indian professionals in different fields is to be well imprinted on wide canvas of the globe. This process is already on. One can see that in more recent times, outsourcing of R&D talent in India by global industries has been significant. It is imperative at this juncture that our young professionals are required to maintain and remain competitive in market all the time. These words are the part of Convocation address of Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, His Excellency Governor of Punjab, which he delivered during the 13th Convocation of I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University. He joined this ceremony as Chief Guest. He is also the Chancellor of this University.
He further said, “During last few decades, our country has made conspicuous and significant progress in the field of Agriculture, Industry, Infrastructure, Information Technology and knowledge wealth. Today, Indian Industry is not only growing in size but also in its level of operation. Globalization and liberalization have made the economy highly competitive. Governor Prof. Solanki blessed the achievers.
Before this, Governor Punjab Prof. Solanki inaugurates the foundation stone of three buildings of hostel in IKGPTU Campus. These hostels will be separate for boys, girls and married persons. Principal Secretary Technical Education IAS M.P.Singh was also present with His Excellency.
Mr. Madan Mohan Mittal, Cabinet Minister Technical Education & Industrial Training, Industries and Commerce was the Guest of honor during this ceremony. He said that his vision is to see our state of Punjab as one among the best states in the domain of education. I hope that IKGPTU shall serve as a milestone in this direction.
Mr. Mittal told that Punjab Government is committed to provide the technical education and industrial training in the state. To achieve this, various polytechnics and ITIs have been established and maintained. Through its support and work, IKGPTU is also playing a significant role in this regard. The university is administrating the academics of more than half of the engineering and management institutes/colleges of state. IKGPTU has brought technology revolution in the state.
He said “Apart from playing only administrative roles for its affiliated colleges, now the university has established its own academic campus where it will be running its on campus teaching departments in various faculties. This is really praiseworthy”.
During the ceremony I.A.S Rakesh Verma, Vice Chancellor IKGPTU shared the last academics achievements of the University. He told that for implementing a revolutionary and positive change in its academic system, the university has decided to implement the Choice Based Credit System from the session 2015-16. This system of evaluation will be applicable to the entire graduate and post graduate courses being run at University’s main campus, its affiliated colleges, constituent colleges and self financed colleges.
To bring its academics at par with UGC norms, the nomenclatures, teaching schemes and curriculums of 66 courses have been modified. This will ensure the global recognition to the degrees being awarded by the university.
To improve the quality of technical education in the state of Punjab, IKGPTU is continuously making various efforts to provide training to the faculty members of colleges affiliated to it. Till date, the University has organized 240 FDPs in different institutes for all the streams and 7000 faculty members have been trained.
IKGPTU with its aim to provide the State of the Art infrastructure and world class quality technical education & research has established PIT’s (Punjab institute of Technology) as its constituent colleges. At present, PITs are being successfully run at 6 locations namely; Kapurthala, Batala, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Bhikhivind and Dinanagar. At these PITs, courses like B.Tech and M.Tech are being run to cater to the needs of local industry.

It is worth mentioning that in academic year 2015-16, University succeeded to place its 10 thousand plus students in various National, Inter-National level industry. Our high package was selection on 36 lakh per annum. At IKGPTU, it is believed that the standard and recognition of any university rest upon the quality of its research. In this direction, the university has got total research grants worth of Rs 26 lakhs from the Department of Science & Technology, India and Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences, India.
After winning the Best Technical University Award 2013-14 from ISTE, India, now this year, IKGPTU has been recognized as the 3rd best university in the state by MHRD, India. Furthermore, in this Framework 2016, the university got 33rd position for its best research contributions and 54th position in top 100 best universities of the country. It is indeed a matter of pride for all of us.
Vice Chancellor also shared about the village adaptations scheme, service of M-Tutor, Cloud service. He also shared future plans of the University.
During 13th Convocation 163 students were awarded with degrees. The number of PhD students was 46, at master degree level 58 and Bachelor degree level was 59. Welcome address was delivered by Dr Amanpreet Singh, Registrar and vote of thanks was by Dr Buta Singh Sidhu, Dean Academics. Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala Sh. Jaskiran Singh, SSP Kapurthala Sh. Rajinder Singh, members of the board of Governors of IKGPTU, academic council & other important committees were present during the annual convocation.
