Chandigarh, July 13, 2016: Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh has declared the number of Hostel seats available for the first year students of various departments in PU Campus.
PU Spokesman informed that the first year Graduation and Post Graduation students at PU campus would get 1,565 seats in the PU hostels, out of which 841 seats are available in Boy’s and 724 seats in Girl’s Hostels. The students are required to submit form for allocation of hostel accommodation to the concerned department.
PU has eight boys and nine girl’s hostels and a Working Women Hostel. Department wise quota and numbers of seats have been uploaded on the PU website http://hostels.puchd.ac.in/show-noticeboard.php?id=1000. As many as 588 seats are
available for boys (General); 127 seats are available for boys (SC); 63 seats each are available for boys (ST) and boys (BC); 505 seats are available for girls (General); 111 seats are available for girls (SC) and 54 seats each are available for girls (ST) and girls (BC) students.
PU Spokesman informed that the admission to the students in the University hostels will be made by the Chairpersons of the respective Teaching Departments. The hostel seats would be allocated to the students as per the merit and Reservation policy as applicable in the PU Hostels.
PU Hostels accommodate more than 6000 students. Each hostel has a dining hall and canteen, several desert and water coolers, a visitor's lounge, and invariably an outdoor court for badminton, volleyball etc. The mess provides a balanced diet at reasonable rates. The Common Room is fairly well equipped with current magazines and newspapers. There is provision for indoor games, LCD TV and music system. Internet connectivity through wi-fi has been provided in each hostel.
Architecturally, PU hostels are aesthetically laid out with plenty of open space and a lot of greenery. The rooms are comfortable, fitted with fan, lights and hard furniture.
