Hyderabad, October 4, 2017: Kadiyam Srihari, Dy CM--Education inaugurates the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of The Institute of Company Secretaries of India(ICSI) here in Hyderabad in a function held at The Indian Institute of Chemical Technology at Tarnaka on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Inaugurated the ICSI Golden Jubilee Celebrations at Vigyan Bhawan, in New Delhi and same is being telecast live via Webcasting at Hyderabad. Modi addressed company secretaries from all over India at that function to mark the start of the golden jubilee year of the ICSI.

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India is the only recognized professional body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India. ICSI has its headquarters at New Delhi, four Regional Offices at New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and 69 Chapters across India.

ICSI is set in 1980 under an Act of Parliament i.e Companies Secretaries Act 1980, for the regulation and development of the profession of Company Secretaries in India.

At present there are almost 50,000 members of the Institute and more than 4,00,000 students are enrolled with the institute.

The Institute functions under the jurisdiction of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The Institute, being a pro-active body, focuses on top-quality education to students of Company Secretaries Course and best quality set standards for CS members.

Addressing the gathering immediately after launching the golden jubilee celebrations, Kadiyam Srihari, Dy. CM complimented The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) for attaining institutional excellence and being a torch bearer for the cause of Good Corporate Governance for the last 50 years. On this momentous occasion, he urged the Institute and its stakeholders for selfless dedication towards attaining the Country’s vision of ‘New India’.

Speaking further he said, “Now is the time that Company Secretaries should optimally unleash their professional acumen, seize the various opportunities offered by the government, perform a dual role: firstly as a young and profound professional and secondly as a company law expert. A Company Secretary can immensely support the Governments in realizing ‘Ease of doing Business’ drive for entrepreneurs and enterprising businesses contributing towards ‘NEW INDIA’.

Company Secretaries have better job opportunities in Telangnaa said Kadiyam Srihari, as it is the most industry friendly state. He agreed to seek their advise in changes if any or restructuring syllabus of B.Com and M.Com. He agreed to their request and promised that he would set up a joint meeting with government officials.

ICSI presented a memorandum to Kadiyam Srihari to recognise Company Secretaries Profession under Municipal Law, Cooperative Society Law, Panchayat Raj and in other laws. Company Secretaries also urged the Deputy Chief Minister to bring out separate Stamp Act for Telangana State.

Welcoming the gathering, Chairman of Hyderabad Chapter of ICSI, Venkata Ramana said Company Secretaries serve both the state and central governments in effective implementation of their various initiatives for growth of corporate and industry. We conducted investor awareness programs on behalf of Ministry of Corporate Affairs and GST awareness programs and recently we submitted a proposal with RBI for creating awareness on RBI Regulations.

Speaking further, Venkata Ramana expressed their willingness to contribute and assist the Telangana Government in bringing out various emerging state laws or state policies like Telangana Stamp Act etc.. for the industrial growth, increasing state Revenue and for effective governance practices.

We would like to suggest that the state government may introduce in the Higher Education and Secondary School Education the basic awareness about financial literacy. Our Chapter can support the educational institutions as resource persons for the subjects, he told.

Venkata Ramana also extended ICSI’s support to the Government of Telangana in promoting innovations in curricular development, restructuring of courses and updating of syllabus in the University and the Colleges to cater to the needs of the Corporate and industries

Addressing the gathering M Srinivas, IRS, Commissioner, GST, Hyderabad said they organised 6112 GST Awareness and Outreach programs across the country out of which 850 are organised in Telangana State. That is 15 per cent of the total outreach programs organised in India were organised in the Telangana state.

We will soon come out with Commodity Specific GST Rate Car Display Boards for display at the commercial establishments to see that consumers are aware of the tax and commercial establishments don’t take consumers for a ride. It is the best thing to happen and it will happen very soon he told the gathering of Company Secretaries.

We have also come out with an APP that gives rates of GST applicable for different commodities, Srinivas told.

Company Secretaries can register with GST as the GST Practitioners very soon Srinivas told the Company Secretaries. You will be accredited practitioners of GST under the law he said.

At the celebrations in the Hyderabad, Shri M. Srinivas, IRS, Commissioner, GST; M.R. Bhat, Regional Director(SER), Ministry of Corporate Affairs; Shri Ravi Kumar Duraisamy, Member of National Company Law Tribunal(NCLT) and N. Ramchander Rao, MLC graced as the guests of honour.

CS Venkata Ramana R. Chairman of the ICSI Hyderabad welcomed the Dy CM Kadiyam Sriahr with a Khadi Angvastram and Certificate marking the commencement of ‘ICSI- Shaheed Ki Beti’ initiative. The initiative aims to fund the education of the daughters of our martyrs.

The function was graced by 200 plus audience comprising of Company Secretaries, CS Students, Professionals, ICSI members, office bearers CS R Venkata Ramana Chairman, CS Kavitha Rani S, Vice-Chairperson, CS Rahul Jain, Secretary and CS K P C Rao, Treasurer and others.

The event also witnessed felicitation of renowned Company Secretaries as well as Past Chairman of ICSI for their distinguished contribution towards the profession and the Institute.

Convocation of Members and Oath Taking Ceremony held on the occasion. Convocation Certificates were presented to ICSI Hyderabad Chapter Managing Committee Members and Senior Members.

The function was followed by Live web-cast from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi addressed by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The local chapter made elaborate arrangements for the same.
