Committee constituted for free insurance of livestock- Ranike

Chandigarh, March 27, 2015: The Punjab Government has constituted a Departmental Committee to encourage the farmers to opt for subsidiary occupations and to ensure the free insurance for the livestock. It was disclosed by Gulzar Singh Ranike while presiding over a review meeting of the Animal Husbandry, Diary Development and Fishery Department. He said that a policy would be chalked out by this committee for the free insurance of the livestock. He said that the State Government will launch a massive campaign to generate awareness among the farmers about the various animal welfare schemes. He said that the camps have also being conducted at the village level for generating awareness among the peasantry.
In this review meeting, Mandeep Singh Sidhu , Financial Commissioner Of Animal Husbandry, Diary Development And Fishery Department, Dr. H.S. Sandha, Director Animal Husbandry, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Director Dairy Development and Dr V.k Sood, Director  Fishery were also present.
During the meeting, Ranike was appraised about the vaccination campaign for foot and mouth disease in animals. The minister directed the officers to constitute district level animals welfare committees. Ranike also took stock of the subsidies and loan schemes for the peasantry. The officers told that to encourage the domestication for goats and pigs in Punjab, under National Mission for Protein Supplements, a project of RKVI, amount of Rs.185.97 lakhs and  Rs.303.88 lakhs respectively has been approved.
