CMC trains 50 doctors in MCI advance course
Ludhiana, September 18, 2019: Christian Medical College, Ludhiana is Medical Council of India (MCI) Nodal centre for Faculty Development. The center is has enrolled 50 doctors in one year course ‘Advance Course in Medical Education (ACME)’. The contact sessions of the program are being conducted from 17-23rd September, 2019 in CMC. The participating doctors are faculty in various medical colleges of India coming from as far as West Bengal, Assam and Jammu & Kashmir. The advance course trains doctors in skills training, skills assessment, innovative teaching learning and assessment methods, leadership skills, mentorship practices, scholarship and curriculum planning. The course also trains doctors in attitude, ethics and communication aspects. The training is in alignment for new curriculum for MBBS in India. The new curriculum for MBBS has been implemented from academic year 2019 throughout India. Dr.William Bhatti, Director, CMC highlighted the efforts of Department of Medical Education, CMC in training the doctors of various medical colleges. He mentioned the role of CMC in training medical teachers of 60 allocated medical colleges in teaching, learning and assessment as well as for the upcoming new curriculum of MBBS. Dr.Jeyaraj D. Pandian, Principal, CMC, informed that the participating doctors will present research papers on their work in medical education which is mandatory part of this course. Dr.Dinesh Badyal, Convener of the MCI Nodal center informed that the 9th Advance course will equip the participants with better knowledge and skills in medical education. He informed that in this course medical doctors are trained to adopt a student centered approach in teaching the MBBS students. Dr.Badyal is Member, MCI Expert group for Implementation and Monitoring of new MBBS curriculum in India and also National Convener of MCI for Curriculum Implementation Support Program (CISP) for new curriculum. He added that CMC is one of the ten MCI Nodal centers for faculty development in India. Dr.Monika Sharma, Co-convener of MCI Nodal Centre and Incharge ACME emphasized that there is urgent need to train faculty of medical colleges in innovative teaching learning and assessment methods as there is demand from societal expectations. The resource faculty of program included Dr.Roma Issac, Dr.Gagandeep Kwatra, Dr.Anjali Jain, Dr.Pamela Alice K., Dr.Aroma Oberoi, Dr.Maria Thomas, Dr.Shavinder Singh, Dr.Ajay Kumar, Dr.Deepshikha Kamra and Dr.Suchitra Deolalikar and faculty from Amritsar, Bathinda, Jalandhar.
