Dharamshala, October 10, 2017: Mortal remains of martyr Subedar Raj Kumar, who attained martyrdom while fighting with the terrorists at Badgam in Kashmir valley on Sunday, were consigned to flames at his native Khanni village today. Aged 47, Raj Kumar belonged to Khanni village of Nurpur tehsil in Kangra district.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has expressed grief over the death of Subedar Raj Kumar.
The Chief Minister expressed deep sympathies with the bereaved family members and prayed for the peace of the departed soul. He said people of the state were with the bereaved family members at this hour of distress.
He said Subedar Raj Kumar laid down his life for the cause of the Nation and the people of the country would always remain indebted to him for this supreme sacrifice. An army officer was killed when a patrolling party was attacked by militants Sunday night in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.
The army officer killed in the encounter in Drang area of Beerwah was identified as Subedar Raj Kumar, a junior commissioned officer (JCO) of 24 Punjab Regiment.
The army team was returning from night patrol when they came under fire, according to an army statement.
