Ludhiana, October 17, 2019: A joint meeting of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) and Ludhiana Sewing Machine Industries Association (LSMIA) held here today.
The members showed their concern about the used machine being imported from China and some other Countries, which is going to be covered under Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RECP). It will have a huge impact on trade of Sewing machine industry.
About the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) is a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) between the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam) and its six FTA partners (China, Japan, India, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand).
Mr Upkar Singh Ahuja and Mr Pankaj Sharma said that Since China is our biggest competitor, so they strongly opposed the ongoing RCEP’s Free Trade Agreement as there will be 30% import duty on Chinese products being sold in India. Indian Indigenous products stands nowhere when compared to Chinese Products in terms of costing, that too when the 30% import duty will be imposed on the Chinese products. In case the import duty is reduced or removed, the Indian industry will face closure.
Meeting was attended by Sh. Upkar Singh Ahuja, President, Sh. Pankaj Sharma, General Secretary, CICU, Sh. Didarjit Singh, Vice President, Sh. Kulwant Singh Sall, Sh. Honey Sethi, Orgnizing Secretary, CICU, Sh. Hardeep Singh Guru, Joint Secretary LSMIA, Sh. Rajwinder Singh, Vice President LSMIA and Sh. Jatinder Kumar, Finance Secretary, LSMIA.
