Cambridge University Press organizes a seminar on English Language skills

Chandigarh, February 22, 2016:Taking forward the philosophy of encouraging English language skills, an interactive session on Cambridge English School: The competitive edge in English Language Learning, Teaching and Assessment was organised by Cambridge University Press and Cambridge English Language Assessment in Chandigarh. The discussion delved deep intohow best practices in learning and assessing English language can ensure more competency and confidence amongst the Indian students. The seminar was addressed byMr Ben Knights, Director of Research and Consultancy, Cambridge University Press

The focus was mainly on Cambridge English Schools, a program where schools commit to international standards of English and enable their teachers and students to benefit from the Cambridge English learning, teacher training and internal assessment. The program has a global network of schools across the world and encourages them to get the completive edge in English learning, teaching and assessment.

Mr Ben Knight, Director of Language Research and Consultancy, Cambridge University Press UK led the discussion by bringing about fresh perspective on the importance and benefits of the ‘Cambridge English School’ programme and how a school can access the Cambridge Advantage by being part of the ‘Cambridge English School’ programme. The session was well participated by many eminent scholars, principals and students from schools in and around the city.

Mr Ben Knight, in his introduction to the discussionoutlined the significance of English in Indian education curriculum, not just as a language but as a necessary life-skill. He said, “The need for English language in Indian school with adequate quality to teachers and learners has become very important. Cambridge English School program is designed to provide support and strengthen students, teachers and schools in India, by bringing high quality education and by making English more accessible for many.”

Speaking at the event, Ratnesh Kumar Jha, Managing Director, Cambridge University Press, South Asia, said, “Children need to read, write and understand correct English Language to be at par with international standards. It is important that educators acknowledge the need to train students in the right way. Cambridge English Schools are supported by the joint experience of Cambridge University Press and Cambridge English Language Assessment; we look forward to supporting schools in India to achieve their vision of achieving high quality education standards. ”

The discussion was followed by a Q&A session where the delegates and participants shared valuable ideas, views and opinions. As a holistic approach, the seminar ended with an overview presentation of Cambridge English Language Assessment and Cambridge University Press.
