Cabinet Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu takes up issues related to NHAI projects & traffic congestion with NHAI Chairman

Ludhiana, November 26, 2019: Punjab Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu today held a meeting with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Chairman Mr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu in his office in Delhi today and took up several issues related to the ongoing development projects in the city.
The Cabinet Minister was also accompanied by Ludhiana (East) MLA Mr Sanjay Talwar, Mayor Mr Balkar Singh Sandhu and traffic expert Mr Rahul Verma.
Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu informed that several issues related to decongesting the city traffic were also taken up with the NHAI chairman during today’s meeting. He said that the NHAI chairman directed his staff to send a high-level team from NHAI for studying the traffic pattern of Ludhiana. “This team would remain in Ludhiana for a week and would study areas facing traffic congestion due to ongoing projects, after which they would prepare a report and provide us with the solution,” he informed.
He said that the NHAI Chairman Mr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu assured that the underpass on Tajpur Road would be constructed so that the issue related to traffic congestion is redressed. “He also gave a go ahead for the construction of a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) near Sherpur Chowk for traffic coming from Mohan Dai Oswal Cancer hospital and going towards SPS Hospital. Besides, issues related to the entry and exit points on the NH44 (GT Road) were also discussed and Mr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu assured that all such issues would be dealt with on priority basis,” Mr Bharat Bhushan Ashu informed.
He said that Mr Sandhu also assured that the ongoing construction work of elevated road project on Ferozepur Road till Samrala Chowk would be speed up. To ease the traffic congestion for traffic coming from Ferozepur and going towards Bus Stand, in place of an underpass, a loop would be constructed near Hotel Gulmohar on Ferozepur Road. The issue related to shifting of up ramp of elevated road from earlier decided Yes Bank Chowk to near PAU was also discussed and the NHAI chairman issued necessary directions. Other issues related to all ongoing development projects related to NHAI, such as Ladhowal Byepass, fixing of streetlights on NH44, and several others were also discussed.
During the meeting, Mr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu stated that Ludhiana has always been close to his heart as he has served in the city as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Ludhiana. Mr Ashu informed that the NHAI chairman assured that there is no shortage of funds for development projects of Ludhiana and the work on ongoing projects would be speed up so that all these projects are completed within the set time frame.
