Ludhiana, September 6, 2014: Ashok Kumar Juneja, Vice President of Chamber of Industrial & Commercial Undertakings (CICU), Ludhiana while addressing the meeting on the subject of VAT & CST organised by United Cycle & Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) as its chief guest and speaker said burden of taxes should not be harassing and arbitrary.
Juneja who is also convener taxes committee of CICU reminded the Central Government  that on April 1, 2005 when VAT was introduced in India on European pattern it was promised that multi-tax system in India will be streamlined by reducing the number of taxes prevailing in the country.
CharanjitVishkarma, President and Rajeev Jain, General Secretary (UCPMA) joined Juneja and highlighted the house that despite passing of more than nine years of the said promise presently in Punjab state the number of taxes e.g. PVAT, Entertainment tax, Luxury tax, Punjab Tax on Lotteries Act, Market Committee Fee & Local/Misc taxes still exist, whereas, on central-level Income Tax, CST, Service Tax, Central Excise Act, Central Excise Tariff Act, Custom Act, Custom Tariff Act also exist. They demanded by conducting the meetings on taxes with CII, Chambers, Beopar Mandals, Trade & Industrial Associations the number of taxes be reduced & streamlined. The harsh provisions which give rise to corruption be deleted for uplifting the trade & industry. Ashok Bhatia C.A and Balwinder Singh Jung, Advocate highlighted the provisions of VAT assessment and asked the state government for issue of refunds fastly since w.e.f. 2009-10 to 2013-14 there is continuous increase in VAT/CST collections.

On the side our heavy amount is with held by the department on other side dealers are paying huge bank interest on their overdrafts & cash credit limits.
Juneja also said that on Information Collection Centres (ICC) there should be no harassment under the garb and pretention of clerical & bonafide mistakes or wrongly alleged undervaluation of goods. The judgments of various courts presented to the designated officers be followed & implemented in the true spirit.
In the meeting Inderjit Singh Navyug, Acchru Ram Gupta, Ajit Kumar (Ajit Bros), Sarabjit Singh (Man International) and owners of Manoj Cycle Industry, Bharti Exports, Sarabjit Singh (Sovereign Cucle Industry) & others also expressed their views.
