British Deputy High Commissioner visits Vet Varsity

Ludhiana, May 27, 2016: A Delegation of British High Commission led by British Deputy High Commissioner, at Chandigarh Mr.David Lelliot visited today at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana alongwith Mr.Dipankar Chakraborty, Lead-Agritech, Head- UKTI North India and Swati Saxena, Sr. Science & Innovation Adviser, New Delhi.
Dr.Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU apprised the delegates about the university setup and its major activities of teaching research and extension. During the meeting, several issues like antimicrobial resistance, pesticide residues in food products of animal origin, functional food products and exchange of the students were discussed. The Vice-Chancellor informed the delegation that university has experts to work on these areas and required to collaborate with research institutes in UK. Mr. Lelliot has shown concern over effect of climatic change on animal health and production which is endorsed by Dr Nanda who informed the house that recently State Government granted a project to different agencies to address the climate change concerns, in which GADVASU has major share. Ms. Swati Saxena urged the house to have collaboration in the area of animal zoonosis. Dr. Nanda informed the delegates that GADVASU is already collaborating with University of Saskatoon, Canada under one health’ and already running a project on Brucellosis in collaboration with Royal Veterinary College, London. The Vice-Chancellor further stated there was need to develop collaboration to address various equine problems particularly arthritis. Mr. Dipankar Chakraborty stated other areas like Dual degree Programme for Jokies, supply of Pig Semen and Vaccine production in which collaboration can be made effectively with GADVASU and State Government. The delegation appreciated the achievements of GADVASU and hoped that the visit is a beginning and we envisage a strong cooperation and relation with vet varsity.
