Big relief to industry-Punjab to allow power connection to second unit within premises of existing industrial plot

Chandigarh, July 8, 2014: Giving a big relief to the industry the Punjab government today resolved to release power connections to the tenants having manufacturing units within the premises of an existing industry. This landmark decision was taken by Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today in a meeting with a delegation of Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) Ludhiana here today.
In a meeting with office bearers of CICU, who were here to call on Deputy CM regarding their long pending demands, Badal after patiently hearing their issues asked Chairman POWERCOM K. D. Chaudhary to submit a proposal to state government for reframing electricity policy to release power connection to second commercial unit established within the premises of existing unit.
The members of delegation apprised Deputy CM that industry department has no objection on operation of more than one manufacturing unit in a same plot, building or premise while in PSPCL parameters that it was ‘illegal use of electricity’. The Deputy CM assured the industrialists and issued directions to CMD Powercom to in this regard.
Interacting with industrialists, Badal also directed Chairman Punjab Pollution Control Board not to seal the entire industrial unit if it was releasing polluted effluents. Badal said only that machinery, which is causing pollution, be seized not the entire machinery in the premises.
Following the interaction, Badal said he would consider the demand of industrialists for Input Tax Credit. He has formed a committee to look into the issue comprising of Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Special Principal Secretary to Deputy CM Ajay Mahajan, Advisor to CM Maheshinder Singh Grewal and Industrialists from the Chamber.
Badal also assured the industrialists that he has taken a decision to have personal meetings with industrialists to know the ground realities and the requisite decisions according to their demands. He said he would be available on every Friday at his office for this purpose and industrialist, traders and business houses can meet him.
Prominent amongst those present in the meeting Sharnjit Singh Dhillon Irrigation Minister, Maheshinder Singh Grewal Advisor to CM, P.S, Aujla Principal Secretary to Deputy CM, Anurag Verma Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Ajay Mahajan Special Principal Secretary to Deputy CM, Avtar Singh, President CICU, Manjit Singh Khalsa, Vice President, Upkar Singh, General Secretary, Charanjit Singh Vishavkarma President United Cycle Parts Manufacturers Association, Avatar Singh Bhogar, Vice President, Yashpal Gupta, President Steel Traders Association, Joga Singh and Kulwinder Singh Benipal of President Focal Points Association.
