Chandigarh, January 8, 2014: Punjab Congress president, Partap Singh Bajwa today assured Punjab Depot holders sitting on protest in Chandigarh that he will definitely take up their demands to the Union Minister for Food & Public Distribution K.V.Thomas and assured them full support from Congress party.
Bajwa flayed the SAD-BJP government for maltreating and discriminating with the 26,000 depot holders of state. He said that Public Distribution system in Punjab had collapsed completely but SAD-BJP government was not ready to accept the genuine demands of depot holders. He said that he would take up with center government all demands of depot holders who are demanding Rs.20,000 per month salary. Bajwa said that Punjab Government was using the services of depot holders in implementing Atta-Dal scheme but they are not paid even a penny for their expenses.
Bajwa received a memorandum from Depot holders' body, addressed to Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh.  
Gurjinder Singh Sidhu President of Depot Holders Union Punjab told Bajwa that Food and Supply Minister, Punjab Adesh Partap Singh Kairon had threatened them to close down all ration depots. He said that 26,000 families would face the unemployment. He said that Justice Wadhma Commission had recommended payment salary to depot holders. He said that funds given by center government to Food and Supply department for laying system of online verification of ration cards were not reimbursed to depot holders.
