Gurdaspur, August 18, 2013: Partap Singh Bajwa, President, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) accompanied by the Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today visited the flood hit villages Ghaniya Ka Bet and Ghonavala in Dera Baba Nanak sector along the Indo-Pak border where dozens of villages have been inundated and standing crops are completely damaged in over 25,000 acres.

Bajwa after visit of several flood hit villages expressed deep anguish over plight of people who are in vain waiting for government help. He said that SAD-BJP government was so apathetic towards the border villages that no arrangements are in place to reach out the helpless people. He listened to the grievances of flood affected people who informed the PPCC president that they were displaced every year due to flood in Ravi river but no flood protection measures are taken by the state government.

Bajwa demanded from Punjab Government to pay a compensation of Rs.25, 000 per acre to the farmers who fully lost their crops fully, Rs.15,000 who suffered partial loss and actual expenses for the reconstruction of homes damaged due to floods. He demanded to set up relief camp. The residents of village Ghania Ke Bet were totally cut off and they need immediate help. There are no boats available. He also demanded ariel survey of the flood hit area.

He said that he would also take up with the center government the case of special funds for the flood protection in these areas. He said that water of Ravi River released by Pakistan also flood the border areas of Punjab.

Bajwa said that people in Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts were also marooned in flood waters of Sutlej and Beas Rivers but no government help is reaching them. He said that local administration had no resources to rescue the people and supply food items to them. He said that Dhusi bandh near Shahpur in Ajnala sector along the Ravi River was on verge of collapsing and about 10,000 acres of crop is damaged.
