Ludhiana, October 12, 2013: A large number of members of the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) Workers' Union, Punjab, (Dhillon Group), staged a protest infront of private residence of Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (IC) Manish Tewari here on Saturday.
Tight security arrangements were made to maintain complete law and order.
The protestors had first assembled outside deputy commissioner's office and then took out a march towards the Union Minister's residence.
Protestors shouted slogans against the government and urged for acceptance of their long-pending demands. They also shouted slogans against the government.
Vehicular traffic on the busy Pakhowal Road was also interrupted for about 60 minutes. As a result, a great inconvenience was caused to commuters.
Addressing the protestors, the Union president Kirandeep Kaur said among other things they demand hike in their salaries, regularisation of posts and promotion to workers who are eligible to become auxiliary nursing wives.
The protest was ended after they got an assurance that their meeting would be arranged with the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. www.cityairnews.com
