Athlete Seema booked seat for The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games

DC Kangra Sundeep Kumar today honoured Bangkok silver medalist Seema
Dharamshala, July 10, 2018: DC Kangra Sundeep Kumar today honoured Seema of Raitan village in Chamba district in Himachal who won a silver medal 0n 5th July in Bangkok Youth Athletics to won a quota place for the Buenos Aires Youth Olympics for 3000 meter race. The 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games officially known as the III Summer Youth Olympic Games, and commonly known as Buenos Aires 2018, is a forthcoming international sports, cultural, and educational event that will be hosted in Buenos Aires, Argentina between 6 and 18 October 2018.
17-year-old Himachal girl Seema of Raitan village in Chamba district cloaked 9:55.87 seconds to claim the silver medal behind Japan's Miyaki Sugata who recorded a time of 9:40.82 seconds. Another Japanese Hidori Kidokoro clinched the bronze with a time of 9:57.54 seconds. In this effort she broke her own national record of 9 min, 56.25s , set up to become the national champion in the Under-18 category.
Seema earlier won a bronze medal in Youth Asian Games in May 2017.
She participated in under-16 Junior National Athletics Championship, which was held in Tamil Nadu in 2016 and secured a national record by completing 2500 meters race in merely 6.27.13 minutes.
DC Kangra Sandeep Kumar said, “The wonder athlete Seema is not only a proud athlete for Himachal but for the entire country. We bow to her great achievements. I hope that she will continue to bring medals for us in future too.”
Kehar Singh Patial, the coach of Seema was also honoured by the administration.

Seema took up athletics in Class 6 and by the time she completed her Matriculation, she had become the state champion in 1500m. Impressed by her raw talent and potential, her coaches admitted her to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Training Centre in Dharamshala in 2015. The very next year saw Seema break the U-16 national record in the 2km event in Coimbatore by clocking 6min, 27.13s.
In 2017, the Class 12 student of Government Senior Secondary Girls School, Dharamshala, went one step further and broke another age-group national record.
She said that it was the wish of her late father, Vajeeru Ram, to see her become a successful international athlete. “My preparation was up to the mark and I had gone with a positive frame of mind to win a gold medal in this championship,” she said. “But honestly, I did not expect to break the national record. I have only one aim in my life — I want to be an international athlete and a good sportsperson.”
Hailing from a modest background in a remote corner of district Chamba, Seema’s family has no source of actually earning money. Her mother is a housewife and ekes out a living by tilling a small chunk of land in the village.
“She comes from a very humble background but she is rich in terms of talent,” said Kehar Singh Patiyal, athletics coach at the SAI centre in Dharamsala.
