Dharamsala, December 12, 2014: Around 22%of teachers’ posts are vacant in the government run degree colleges in Himachal. There are 81 colleges in the 12 districts of Himachal, which has 2253 sanctioned posts (including surplus pool), of Professors, Assistant Professors and Lecturers in these colleges, and at present 498 are lying vacant.
Chief Minister Vir Bhadra Singh who is also holding the portfolio of Education, said in Dharamsala that as per the figures stands today, only two colleges, Govt. College of Teacher Training Dharamsala and Govt. College Bangana has all the sanctioned post filled in. He said, “It is not all a big problem as recruiting college teachers is a regular process in the state.”
Govt College Mandi has the maximum number of sanctioned posts in teaching staff amounting to 82 (7 vacant) followed by GC Dharamsala total posts 81 (15 Vacant) and RKMV Shimla 70 posts (9 vacant). There are  16 vacant posts out of 48 in GC Chamba .
Kangra district has the maximum numbers of 16 Government degree colleges in Kangra district. Mandi district has 13 and Shimla district has 12Colleges, while Kinour and Lahoul Spiti has one each.
