Mehdipur Volleyball Championship being organised by 21 Punjab Regiment under the aegis of Gurki Brigade with the idea of promoting sports and spirit of competition amongst the youth of the remote areas of KhemkaranTehsil.

Jalandhar, July 10, 2013: Mehdipur Volleyball Championship was organised by 21 Punjab Regiment under the aegis of Gurki Brigade with the idea of promoting sports and spirit of competition amongst the youth of the remote areas of KhemkaranTehsil.

The event was conducted successfully over a duration of ten days.  A total of ten teams participated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm resulting in the finals between Macchike and Assal Uttar ‘B’ team. Mchhike lifted the inaugural Trophy of Mehdipur Volleyball Championship beating Asal Uttar ‘B’ team by 3 sets to 1, and was subsequently awarded with a cash prize of Rs15,000 by Commanding Officer 21 Punjab and MLA Prof Virssa Singh Valtoha.

Speaking on the occasion, Commanding Officer 21 PUNJAB said that these types of competitions will surely help in promoting the spirit of brotherhood among the youth. He also said that participation is more important than winning as in all sports events there can be only one winner, he also assured people of any help from Army side.

The locals appreciated this initiative taken by Army to reach out to the people in far flung areas where sports facilities are limited.
