Ludhiana, May 3, 2016: With the active support and technical guidance from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), an agro-processing complex “Sekhon Flour Mills” has been established in the village Sekha Kalan of district Moga. The complex, owned by S. Kulwinder Singh Sidhu, has been set-up under the aegis of All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology. The agro-processing plant includes a modern wheat flour milling unit, and the procurement of baby oil expeller and masala grinder is under process. More than 300 people attended the inaugural function.

Dr M.S. Alam, Incharge AICRP on Post-Harvest Technology and Research Engineer, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, PAU said that this agro-processing plant was the result of the sincere efforts, put in by the PAU, for turning producers into processors for value addition of the agricultural produce. He observed that such plants would help in the processing of produce at farm gate itself; and minimizing post-harvest handling and transportation losses, thus, making local availability of quality processed products at nominal rate. He exhorted other farmers of the area to set-up such plants to check migration of rural youths to the cities, generate employment opportunities for the rural population and fetch higher economic returns.

Er. Rohit Sharma motivated the rural youth to take lead in the establishment of more such complexes in Moga district.

Dr A.K. Singh, Head, Department of Processing and Food Engineering, PAU appreciated the efforts made by Dr M. S. Alam and his team including Er Rohit Sharma and S. Mehal Singh.
